On Wednesday, Sept 24, 2025, the Council passed by-law 2025-092 with respect to the re-division of wards within the Municipality.
This reconsideration of Ward Boundaries was proposed in relation to community concerns expressed regarding the appointment of a Deputy Mayor vs appointment of the position. In 2021, the Council of the day engaged Watson and Associates to conduct a review of the then Ward system. The report was received and further amended by Council, creating the current Ward Boundary System. Upon review of the Watson and Associates 2021 report, the current council, taking into consideration community concern about the inability to elect a Deputy Mayor, chose the originally recommended option laid out by Watson and Associates. In doing so, a Deputy Mayor will be duly elected in the 2026 election. This review has also repositioned Ward One’s boundary, which now encompasses a larger catchment area. Please note that after the 2026 election, Ward ONE will be identified as Ward THREE.
